Scholarship Programs

MVJBS awards up to eight  scholarships each year. The scholarships are $500 each, and NMSU will match each award with another $500.

The Bob Burns Scholarship is awarded in recognition of Bob Burns’ lifetime commitment to the education about and production of jazz and blues music. This scholarship is available to high school seniors entering the New Mexico State University Music Department and to existing NMSU music students.

The Helen Sachs Helder Vocal Jazz Scholarship is awarded in memory of Helen Sachs, a jazz vocalist and recording artist (17 albums) who was well known in the Southwest, Germany and Holland. This scholarship is available to high school seniors entering vocal music programs at either New Mexico State University  or University of Texas at El Paso.
