This is the Fourth Annual Red, White & Blues Festival. We have moved it from August due to rain. So we are hoping that this new date will offer us good, cool weather and delightful skies. We have a great line up for you.
This year we are bringing in a new headliner, The Todd Tijerina Trio. We listened to them and were very impressed. We are sure you will be too.
Here is what some of the critics have to say about this band.
"Infusing funk, rock and jazz elements into his blues stylings, Todd has always striven to be unique as a songwriter and guitarist. Rootstime (Belgium) declares that he “creates his own style and sound… His manner of guitar playing, singing and songwriting is refreshing and inspiring.” The Promised Land Entertainment Magazine states, “[the band's] newest release is a perfect example of how to take the old and mix in the new to get a feeling of something very special… From the opening instrumental you can tell you're in for a ride you won't forget.” Putnay Thomas of Blues On Stage magazine states, “His music is distinctive… His guitar playing as much power and expression as any guitarist I've heard…It's just a matter of time before he gets a major label release.” Todd's unique sound is a result of his own take on songwriting with an emphasis on maintaining potent hooks, personal identity and grooves that cross genre lines which help explain his contribution's relevancy to blues as an evolving art form."
The band has Todd Tijerina on guitar/vocals, Dave Heidt on bass/vocals and Mo Roberts on drums. They will be playing from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Visit their website for more information.
A local favorite is the Muddy Hands Blues Band. This year they will also be playing with several of their talented friends. The Muddy Hands Blues Band was formed in Las Cruces New Mexico the Spring of 2011. The Muddy Hands Blues Band brings years of professional experience to the stage. MHBB is Ben Altamirano on vocals and harp, Andrew Anaya on drums, Bill Godby on guitar, John Hyndman on electric and upright bass and Kenny Arroyos on keyboard. This year they are adding a horn section which includes, Dwight Goetz, and MVJBS scholarship winner Josh Carter. Some of the friends who will be showing up is Sage Gentle Wing, Jim Shearer, and Pam Rossi among others. The band's song list includes a mixture of classic Chicago blues, Texas shuffle and Memphis with tunes by Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Little Walter, BB King, Slim Harpo, Jimmy Reed, Otis Span, Albert Colllins and Freddie King. They will be playing from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
CW Ayon Trio will be kicking off the festival. We are sure he will get you in the mood for an excellence evening of music on the lush lawns of St. Clair Winery & Bristro with the exquisite Organ Mountains in the background.
CW Ayon may call the Southwestern deserts of New Mexico home but his soul is deeply rooted in the Blues and grooves of the Mississippi Hill Country. He is the winner of two New Mexico Music Awards. CW has shared his music all over the world having played in France, Switzerland and Australia, as well as numerous tours across the U.S.
With a rather simple kick/snare and tambourine setup he lays down solid beats while picking out some catchy hooks on anything from acoustic to resonator guitars. Sometimes he drops in a bit of harmonica for good measure. All the while building a sound and playing style that is deceptively larger than it seems.
This year he is adding two more players to his "one-man band". They are Felipe Calavera on bass and Chris Smith vocals and guitar. This unique coupling will produce some amazing music. They will be playing from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Visit his website for more information.
